BKVC Triumphs at Paola European City of Sport 2026 Tournament

Birkirkara Volleyball Club proudly emerged as champions of the inaugural tournament organised by Paola Volleyball Club to commemorate Paola being named European City of Sport 2026.

The competition featured four teams: BKVC, Mġarr VC, Depiro VC, and hosts Paola VC.

Day One

All teams faced each other in a round-robin format. BKVC delivered strong performances, securing one victory and narrowly losing two closely contested matches. At the end of Day One, Mġarr led the standings, followed by Paola, with BKVC and Depiro placing third and fourth respectively.

Day Two

The semi-finals saw BKVC face hosts Paola VC in a highly competitive encounter. Demonstrating composure and determination, BKVC secured a 2–0 victory to progress to the final.

In the final, BKVC faced Depiro VC in an intense three-set match. After losing the first set (21–16), BKVC responded strongly, winning the second set by the same scoreline. The deciding set showcased high-quality rallies, with BKVC ultimately sealing victory 15–9.

This result crowned Birkirkara Volleyball Club as winners of the first European City of Sport 2026 Tournament.

Acknowledgements

BKVC extends its sincere appreciation to Mr Kenneth Vella, President of Paola Volleyball Club, for the invitation and organisation of the event.

The club also recognises Coach Dalton Caruana for his professionalism and leadership.

At the conclusion of the tournament, BKVC President Stefan Decelis presented commemorative tokens to representatives of Depiro VC, Mġarr VC, and Paola VC.
